About Maya

Maya is a junior currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in public health with a minor in political science at Washburn University. She joined the Prevention and Resiliency Services team in June 2024 as Administrative Coordinator. In her role she provides essential administrative support, helping to ensure daily operations run smoothly.

Maya’s passion for harm reduction began during her internship at Lawrence Memorial Hospital where she witnessed firsthand the impact of the fentanyl epidemic. She strongly believes in judgment-free support and expanding access to life-saving tools for all.

Before joining PARS, Maya worked as a youth worker at the Boys & Girls Club’s Center for Great Future’s and later became a leadership intern at Lawrence Memorial Hospital where she developed a career interest in public health. She went on to work as a medical assistant in LMH’s physician division for a year before transitioning into her current role. In early 2025, she also completed a legislative internship at the Kansas State Capitol where she explored the intersection of public health and policy.

Outside of work and school, Maya enjoys traveling and making pottery. She recently studied abroad in Costa Rica through Washburn University, and she enjoys ceramics as a creative outlet in her free time.
